Tibet is the roof of our world.
As a consequence of China's invasion and its particularly savage colonization policy (1 200 000 tibetans dead under Chinese oppression since 1959), a nation and a culture are disappearing.

Of course, the battle has many fronts, there are as of yet many other places on the planet where human rights are diregarded, where freedoms don't exist, where torture is practiced...
But what strikes me as an especially apalling injustice in the case of Tibet, is we're dealing here with a people who represent on earth one of the only cultures based on real values of tolerance, non violence, and living spirituality.

It is exactly such an absence of values which our world suffers from at the present time.

Alas, this perfectly illustrates the nature of a society basically governed by economic greed.

Human rights are outweighed by the requirements of politics.
Although western governments verbally decry China's politics in Tibet, their actions are essentially limited to closing and signing juicy financial contracts, with this partner, who is nonetheless hardly commendable.

Here are a few elements to bear in mind concerning the situation in Tibet:

  • Today, there are more Chinese living in Tibet, than Tibetans.
  • Demographic control is enforced upon Tibetan women, with mandatory abortions and sterilizations.
  • The Tibetan language is driven to disappear, since Chinese is the only authorized tongue in schools.
  • Thousands of monasteries have been devastated.
  • It is forbidden to own a portrait of the Dalai-Lama.
  • Monks are forced to intensive sessions of reeducation.
  • Torture is commonplace in prisons.
  • 85% of the forests have been exploited and have now vanished.
  • Massive dumps of nuclear waste lead to increasing pollution.

Today comics artists pledge their support to the people of Tibet.

  • One of the first aims to reach is
an open dialog between Chinese authorities and the Dalai-Lama.
